Probably not. You never know what kind of **** you have repressed though.

Frownland doesn't like to stick smooth pickles in his butt, he likes the lumpy textured pickles. He even likes there to be a few hard rough patches because an artist has got to suffer for his art. And that's how Jesus Is Carpenter was made.

He likes the spicy pickles.

Phil Collins actually isn't that bad. Sometimes.

As long as he doesn't sing.

I love fun music but the fun music I like does usually have more to offer than that.

How does Joy feel about that?

I like Eagles and I'm pretty sure I like every single song on Hotel California.

how do they have pink champagne on ice but no wine

I don't think I like anything particularly embarassing outside of some symphonic metal. How boring is that?

Oh wait, I know! I actually own this:

Sigh. Download? Don't even know why. I don't give a **** about Mariah Carey. Just curious for no apparent reason.

Some of the tracks are kind of blah, several have just the right combo of feel good cheese and a sort of nice, cosy vibe that I like to bring it out around christmas time. I like Wham's Last Christmas too. This album comes somewhat close to giving me more of that kind of vibe.
It's the only Carey album I bother owning.
Seems to me christmas albums are unfairly maligned in general. I'm kind of interested in the musical traditions related to christmas. I like a lot of christmas psalms too.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 11-08-2017 08:29 PM

i'm a sucker for christmas music too. normally i become numb to it a few weeks into December but working in retail actually led to it growing on me.

The Batlord 11-08-2017 08:36 PM

I manage to avoid Christmas music basically until the night I go to my grandparents house for dinner, and they love this Ed Ames Christmas **** album, so I've heard it once a year every year for 31 years on repeat and so it has some serious nostalgic value. Not something to listen to on headphones for whatever reason (meh), but in company it's surprisingly "cosy".

I wouldn't open with this one.

The Batlord 11-08-2017 08:42 PM

Just tried to pause that Ed Ames Youtube video with my keyboard pause button which activates MusicBee and not Youtube and it was the first time in my life I've ever transitioned from Ed Ames into Dark Angel. I lol'd.

Well, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the only good song she ever released in her entire god-forsaken career so I can't fault you too much.

Not bad. It's very psalm like, which I can appreciate. Reminds me of certain Danish christmas tunes that I've heard every year at my parents house for my entire life. I don't know whether it's Stockholm syndrome or what, but it reads as enjoyable music to me. Under the right circumstances at least

I like a couple handful more, but it really is the best song she's done. If only she'd been a singer of old pop tunes instead of R&B, soul ballads and gospel.

There's only one Christmas Song that matters. It's so fitting for the times...

MicShazam 11-09-2017 02:45 AM

My only christmas song link will be this little gem from an old Danish film. It's just about the most Danish christmas feeling thing you can find and it evokes all manner of warm feelings of nostalgia in me. Note that it is dark in the video clip. Danish tradition is to do the whole christmas tree song and dance and the presents and the big dinner and everything at the evening of the 24th. It was always very special as a kid, getting to stay up late on that evening - the darkness, the candles, the presents, food, candy, music, song and dance around the tree... Best ****ing day of the year when you're 5-10 years old.

Still love it though :D

I'm awful about Christmas music. If a song even says the word "Christmas" in it, but is otherwise completely unrelated to the holiday, I'll be slightly put-off.

I don't even hate Christmas, I'm just easily annoyed by the novelty and commercialization of it.

Frownland 11-12-2017 12:21 PM

Some Christmas music can be good

I hate Christmas with every particle of my being.

Scnowyy 11-12-2017 12:32 PM

There's an a cappella Christmas song that I like that's adapted from an old poem.

I don't hate actual Christmas, though. Actual Christmas is my favourite week of the year. But I keep it to a week.

The music my parents bring out every year at christmas is sort of an odd blend. It's this 3 CD set from the 80's with a mix of poppy tunes, heavy with keyboard and fake drums, plus some Danish holiday standards. There's some powerful nostalgia connected with these songs, simply because I've ben beaten over the head with them for 36 years.

A couple examples:

Søren Bundgaard - Hvis Det Kan Ske På En Julenat

A pretty morose sounding song. Most of the Danish christmas songs and christmas psalms I like are more like this than celebratory.
It kind of fits the bittersweet feeling of the winter season. The lyrics are sort of about cautious optimism for mankind.

Snapshot - Nu Det Jul Jul Jul

A sort of frantic, pop song, the lyrics of which are clearly more sarcastic than an actual celebration of christmas and the whole fuss about buying gifts, receiving gifts, spending lots of money. Some lines in the song say that it doesn't matter that you cant afford all these fancy things - just buy them on credit!

Paedantic Basterd 11-12-2017 12:57 PM

The one exception is Wham's Last Christmas.

Speaking of which, let's go!
