Some Christmas music can be good

I hate Christmas with every particle of my being.

There's an a cappella Christmas song that I like that's adapted from an old poem.

I don't hate actual Christmas, though. Actual Christmas is my favourite week of the year. But I keep it to a week.

The music my parents bring out every year at christmas is sort of an odd blend. It's this 3 CD set from the 80's with a mix of poppy tunes, heavy with keyboard and fake drums, plus some Danish holiday standards. There's some powerful nostalgia connected with these songs, simply because I've ben beaten over the head with them for 36 years.

A couple examples:

Søren Bundgaard - Hvis Det Kan Ske På En Julenat

A pretty morose sounding song. Most of the Danish christmas songs and christmas psalms I like are more like this than celebratory.
It kind of fits the bittersweet feeling of the winter season. The lyrics are sort of about cautious optimism for mankind.

Snapshot - Nu Det Jul Jul Jul

A sort of frantic, pop song, the lyrics of which are clearly more sarcastic than an actual celebration of christmas and the whole fuss about buying gifts, receiving gifts, spending lots of money. Some lines in the song say that it doesn't matter that you cant afford all these fancy things - just buy them on credit!

I could listen to that one out of season.

Speaking of which, let's go!
