My Age Then: The government of Canada makes Canadian radio and television play something like a mandatory 30% Canadian content in their programming. As a result, there are a bunch of artists who are tremendously well-known in Canada, but literally unheard of anywhere else. This is one of those weird little bands that probably only Qwerty will also know. I have vivid memories of not understanding the sexual content of the lyrics, but simultaneously knowing I wasn't supposed to listen to this with my mom around. Oh yeah, and this album taught me the word "bastard", so thanks?

My Age Now: This is some silly ****. "Simon" and "Milo" (animated characters, like Gorillaz, but absolutely nothing like Gorillaz) are two white, teenage Torontonians pretending to have British accents and singing songs about STDs and masturbation. And they were ****ing MASSIVE because of it. In Canada, I mean. I remember thinking that Strange Disease and Sucks to be You were some of the hardest-hitting songs I had ever heard (granted, I was eight). What actually exists is a collection of very silly pop songs about ****ing. Hot Show either samples Santana's Smooth or directly apes it. Shag Tag legitimately sounds like it belongs in Jarvis Cocker's discography instead of here. The faster songs are actually kinda solid, but the slower and/or more uplifting tracks are forgettable rubbish.

Best Tracks: The singles are still pretty catchy. That includes Hot Show, Strange Disease, and Sucks to be You. If we're all being honest with each other, this is not that far away from being a Pulp album, and if it had been, I'd be all up on its dick.

Rating or Something: 2 / 5, or "Inconsistent".

How I Feel About it Now: I told my friend Brian that I was reviewing this and he said he saw them live last year. THEY'RE STILL A BAND. THEY RELEASED AN ALBUM THIS YEAR. Life is full of surprises.
