What genre to explore next?

I was looking through my library, trying to figure out what bases I've got covered and which are left wide open. There's always plenty to explore in the frankly staggeringly huge world of music, but I'm not sure where to focus my attention.

I'd basically like some suggestions, perhaps coupled with an artist or two to start on.

HOWEVER.

I do have a few genres I won't bother with any more for now:

- Jazz of any description
- Rock of any description
- Metal (I'm much more metal literate than it probably seems. Don't need more knowledge about that just now.)
- Rap/hip-hop
- ambient, noise, avant-garde material of whatever sort
- soul
- r&b
- blues

ALSO!
This thread isn't just for me. Anyone else looking for genre blind sides to cover should ask for suggestions too.

what do you want World Music? Flamenco?

I totally admit to shamelessly designing that post to exclude the most obvious types of recommendations I'd expect to receive. There's still a truckload of genres out there and I have no preferences. Anything anyone thinks would be worth my time.

If I didn't have those rules I'd probably drown in jazz, post-rock and grindcore immediately. Which would be a bit boring, since I've listened plenty to all of those.

I'm gonna ignore the list and recommend hip hop exploration.

Aww but it's the most boring genre in the whole world. Outside of rockabilly and a few other obvious offenders.

Exactly what I try to avoid being told. The thought of listening to more post or jazz anything for the foreseeable future makes my soul sigh very deeply.

MicShazam 10-18-2017 03:52 PM

Rockabilly is objectively speaking the lamest genre ever.

Frownland 10-18-2017 03:57 PM

Ja rockabilly is insanely boring.

Literally the album I was considering ignoring his **** about.

The Batlord 10-18-2017 04:03 PM

Honestly I've never listened to much rockabilly cause it sounded boring too. But that's at least due to ignorance and not because I'm condemning an entire genre.
