Well, maybe you'll like this review, Anteater.

Favorite Tracks: Deep Water, Crazy. Future Love Paradise

Least Favorite Tracks: Whirlpool, Wild

Of course this is the album that spawned Seal’s classic, Crazy. WHFS played it to death when I was listening to it in 1991. I didn’t know what to expect as far as the album went though since I wasn’t all that impressed with Seal’s later material.

Let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised. It starts off with a track called the Beginning interestingly enough. That starts off the album on a good note and the next two songs, Deep Water and the aforementioned Crazy, really makes the album for me. It tails off a little after Killer but it picks up again after Whirlpool with Future Love Paradise which gets kind of funky in the middle of the song. The album seems to lose a little momentum towards the end but overall I have to say I like the album a lot.

Frown, it has a 9 minute experimental ambient closer and other songs like Killer toy with different electronic textures here and there too. Just because Seal can carry a melody doesn't mean there aren't good points even for people who dislike soul-pop or whatever genre tag you slap on it. Think about what Seal was competing against on radio in '91...compared to most of his contemporaries he might as well be Merzbow. And the boys in MBV and Primal Scream were fans of the album too so he has that cred I guess.

The picture with the computer screen doesn't make any sense, but pretty funny.

If you took off the two or three weaker cuts on this first Seal album then combined what's left with the best songs on his '94 self-titled you've have one of the best pop records ever.

Wow so a lot of people like a dull artist. Impressive.

The html coding was meant to demonstrate how formulaic the music is. I guess this album shows that listening to the radio is a bad idea, especially in the 90s.

Impressive enough to where I can enjoy his first two albums and still like somewhere in the ballpark of 90% of what you'd qualify as "good".


Without radio in the 90's an entire generation of kids wouldn't have discovered metal though.

My perception (in a general sense) is that all music is formulaic in some way, so being formulaic isn't an important factor. Our brains recognize all kinds of patterns and (ideally) appreciate a wider variety of them over time as we spend more time exploring different genres. That's why I can enjoy Seal or Gorguts or Les Rallizes Dénudés or anything else depending on the day: they all thrive within their respective aesthetics and you can pick up on it. If you compare Seal to his contemporaries, he's obviously a better songwriter and had a better producer.

/tldr version: Music is deep bruh. Sonic The Hedgehog has the best soundtrackz.

That's all good and well and here's a cookie and all for your wonderful taste in music, but the music is incredibly boring to me and his pleasant voice can't save that.

I honestly thought Seal was a meh album. Crazy and Killer were the best tracks here.
