I only heard one album by DiFranco before, and I remember not being very impressed by it, and the opening, and title, track does nothing to change that opinion. “Pacifist's Lament” is better, though not really that much, and I have to say I'm feeling the same kind of apathy that I did when I listened to the other album of hers, Which Side Are You On? Just really not interested. Can't find anything to latch onto. Well, having said that, “Sasquatch” has a nice jazzy piano beat, which is very pleasing, and a fairly low-key vocal on which she often slides into scat vocalise, and that's quite a good track. Mind you, this is track nine of eleven, so a little late. Let's see what the last two are like. Okay, “Terrifying Sight” is not without its charm, but the closer is weak to the max. No, not really impressed.

Position in Discography: Seventh

In total contrast to the previous album, this clicks with me from the first minute. I think I'd class this as more synthpop, new wave or darkwave maybe, but Wiki knows all, huh? Anyway, the female vocal is initially strangely flat but not emotionless, with as it goes along a definite undercurrent of warmth detectable at all times. Great keyboard work, though the guitars take over on “Counterpane” when the band rock out in an almost metal vein. Nice. This is all gold so far. Initiate discography download ... stand by ... execute! Yeah, this is fantastic stuff. More, please.

I suppose you have to admire a band (well, their manager/corporate director) who takes a name which is an acronym for Brand New Idol Shit, and maybe this is an attempt to break out of the often restricted scope, the near stranglehold exercised upon “Idol” groups in Japan, Korea and elsewhere. Or, maybe the EP will live up to the last word in the band's name. Either way, it's short, only five tracks, so it'll go by quickly at least. Meh, it has energy but it's essentially just sped-up K-pop (or J-pop I guess) as far as I can see. I had hoped for dirtier, angrier, more different. Ah well.

Can't say I've heard of such a thing as a “hip-hop boy band” before. This could be interesting. Or awful. Well, this is some angry **** - “**** you! I'll break your neck so you can watch your back!” Ah, you have to laugh, don't you? The opening track sounds more like that Grime I've listened to once or twice. Can't say that's a good thing, though it's not really a bad one either, at least in this case. There's something about this that's quite ... magnetic? “Gold” is much better; interesting how each song title (other than the skits) is a single word. I like “Fake” too, kind of a new-wave synthy thing going on in the sample, and “Cash” has a nice traplike feel to it.

Not mad about “Milk” but “Face” is the business. Finally, “Waste” is a fantastic closer. Pretty good album in the end really. Doubt I'd be a fan, but I see they released two more albums in 2017, so I'm bound to bump into them again along the way.

Check out more from this artist? I guess

inb4 TH gets mad about the Saturation concept without realizing that Brockcrapton is doing it on purpose

Wasting your time. I don't even know what that means, nor do I care.

They released a lot of material this year (saturating their name, some might say) and I already know that by Saturation III you're going to be bitching about how much material they've released.

I'm glad you don't care though, that's very cool. However, I don't care that you don't care, and if you respond to this by telling me that you don't care that I don't care that you don't care, remember that I don't care that you don't care that I don't care that you don't care.

Seriously, no: I already see they released three albums in a year. I have zero problems with that, as long as they're all decent or half-good. I thought this one was pretty rad to be honest. I'd listen to it again.

Album title: Moon Goes Missing
Artist: Carolyn Wonderland
Genre: Blues
Nationality: American
Release date: June 9
Position in Discography: Seventh
Estimated Rating:

You can't beat a bit of blues, and for me, slow smouldering blues is the best. “Open Eyes” is such a track, sizzling with emotion and power. If I didn't already know it wasn't the case, I would think Wonderland was black, as she has that real voice you associate with black blues singers. Very soulful, very powerful, a real attention grabber. There's great sleazy rock in “Can't Nobody Hide From God” and she brings her own style of gospel to “She Wants To Know”, with some fine bouncy piano too. “To Be Free” is very jazzy with scat singing and that deep-throated growl some of the jazz singers used, and she ends with a brooding version of Thorogood's classic “Bad to the Bone”. Good album.
Check out more from this artist? I'm not that inclined to really

Why the fuck would anyone cover Bad to the Bone when they could just cut the bullshit and cover Mannish Boy?
