When it starts at least, this reminds me very much of eighties pop bands such as The Kane Gang and Johnny Hates Jazz; probably nothing like either but the style puts me in mind of bands I used to hear on the radio back when I were young(er) and generally discounted, as I was into my heavy-metal-and-prog-rules phase. It's bright and breezy and upbeat, with a flavour of Deacon Blue or The Beautiful South about it too. Meh, it's pleasant enough but is there any actual substance there? Halfway through and I have yet to hear anything vaguely memorable. Is it unfair to call this twee? No. No, it isn't. It kicks up into life a bit more near the end, but still pretty boring.

I made it out of my ONLY heavy metal and prog phase, as a glance through my many journals will show. I realised there was other music out there, and that the music I had looked down upon, I had never really listened to. So I matured, very very slightly, music-appreciation-wise. Shrug.

If you want to know how good the album invert the Troll-o-meter.

I think it is harder if you're reviewing music in a genre you don't particularly like. I can't imagine giving too many glam metal albums a good rating for example and believe me, I had to listen to a lot of it with the crowd I was hanging with.

Yeah, the latest Feelies doesn't sound too bad. This is a band I always found to be hit and miss so this sounds pretty nice. I think Trollheart is right on about Hippo Campus though.

How can you call those guys macho when they wear all that makeup?

(Then again, Bowie and T Rex wore makeup too. Okay, I'll shut up now)

They wore make-up all through the 70s, starting with UK Glam, then with Disco then New Wave, then into the 80s with New Romantic and Hairy Metal/Heavy Glam.

edit: oops, I almost forgot Goth.

Glam and Disco were one thing, but to see supposedly tough guys fawn over guys they would have otherwise beaten up as sissies amazed me.

And Batlord, at least you could have posted the video where the girl lifts her shirt to show her, uh, assets. :D

Album title: The Search for EverythingL Wave Two
Artist: John Mayer
Genre: Blues/R&B/Pop/Rock
Nationality: American
Release date: February 24
Position in Discography: Seventh EP; thirteenth release
Fear Factor: Very Low
Familiar with this artist? No, but loved the previous EP
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No
Average RYM Score: 3.03
I guess this idea of releasing an album over several EPs is becoming more popular, and I didn't realise or understand, when I reviewed Mayer's previous EP that he was doing this too. I still don't get it. But I really enjoyed Wave One, and Wave Two looks to be continuing in the same vein of high quality. I've yet to hear a bad Mayer song. Admittedly, my experience so far is limited to these two EPs, but I intend to rectify that as soon as I can. Great stuff. Again.
