Album title: Life Will See You Now Artist: Jens Lenkman Genre: Indie Pop Nationality: Swedish Release date: February 17 Position in Discography: Fourth Fear Factor: Low Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.31 Bright and breezy is how I'd describe the start of this album, very upbeat and happy. Unfortunately, this is how it stays and the word “safe” could not apply more literally to this music. It's the very lightest, no-brain pop I have ever heard. I can almost taste the sugar rotting my teeth as I listen. Probably should come with a government health warning. If you're expecting dark, mature, dangerous or anything deep, look very much elsewhere. It's almost as if Paul Simon and James Taylor had a child, but nowhere near as good as that union might have theoretically turned out to be. Check out more from this artist? No Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 9

Album title: The Chief Artist: Jidenna Genre: Hip-Hop/Pop/R&B Nationality: American Release date: February 17 Position in Discography: Debut Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.71 Always nice to see a hip-hop album open with acoustic guitar. Ooh, I like the dark energy on this! Angry without being boastful, no “I am the greatest” type ****. Great rhythm to “Chief Don't Run”, and “Trampoline” is hilarious, somehow achieving the twin and opposite goals of calling her a slut while also defending her honour: “The lady ain't a tramp just cause she bounces up and down like a trampoline.” Classic. And now we're getting what sounds like a fifties ballad. Holy ****. This album is, so far, amazing. And then the main theme to “Can't Help Falling In Love With You”, and he sings (yeah, sings) on “Helicopters/Beware”. Reworking “We Will Rock You” for “Long Live The Chief” - rhythm on this album is amazing. Have I said that already? Well I'm saying it again. A review of this album noted it “keeps the listener's attention throughout” and I was skeptical, but it really does. One of the best hip-hop/r&b albums I've heard here. Excellent. Album title: Rap Album Two Artist: Jonwayne Genre: Hip-Hop Nationality: American Release date: February 17 Position in Discography: Fifth Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.36 Got to be honest: someone who couldn't be bothered to think of a proper title for his albums doesn't inspire confidence, but we'll see. Okay this is another surprise. This is really good. The second track, where someone accuses him of not being a rapper and he absolutely kills it, and the guy is like “Holy **** man!” and “The Single” with its multiple false starts, damn hilarious. “City Lights” has a great atmosphere about it, as does “Ahead of Us”. Great album, another big surprise. Loved this. Check out more from this artist? Yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 10

Album title: Songs of the Latin Skies Artist: Katie Noonan and Karin Schaupp Genre: Jazz/Classical/Pop Nationality: Australian Release date: February 17 Position in Discography: First collab Fear Factor: Low Familiar with this artist? No to both Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: N/A What a beautiful combination we have here. Noonan sings like an angel while Schaupp plays classical guitar wonderfully, the result being a real feast for the ears. “Retrato Brasileiro” sees Schaupp take the limelight solo, and a lovely job she does on this soft instrumental, and then a more forceful and powerful, though no less beautiful one in "La Muerte del Angel". This album doesn't have a single flaw, not one wrong note (as far as I can see and I imagine I'm correct in assuming that), not one bad song and not one under-par performance from either of the ladies. Superb. Again, to quote Occult, unassailable. Check out more from this artist? Oh yes, both of them. Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 0

Album title: Beautiful Suicide Artist: Massive Ego Genre: Darkwave/Electronic Nationality: English Release date: February 17 Position in Discography: Second Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.50 Hey, I didn't even know Batty had a band! RDRR! And it's a double, too, so that might be it for tonight, boys and girls. It's certainly got a lot of energy, though apart from the singer's voice I don't really see the darkwave here, but sure what do I know? Good start anyway. I particularly love the bouncy “She Uses Sex”, but I'd have to say I'm enjoying everything here so far. Great stuff. “I Idolize You” is a fantastic song, while “Drag Me In, Drag Me Under” has more almost a techno aspect to it, very dancy, and this kind of style continues on into the title track. The orchestral epilogue to “I Idolize You” is immense. What a ****ing great album! Check out more from this artist? Oh yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 10
