Album title: The Lesser God Artist: Dumal Suggested by: Qwertyy Genre: Black Metal Nationality: American Release date: January 2 Position in Discography: Second Fear Factor: Low Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? A very little Average RYM Score: 3.34 Does it say enough for my hated of free jazz that I'm actually looking forward to listening to Black Metal, which a few years ago would have filled me with trepidation? Yeah, well, that Trollheart is dead, and nobody will ever find the body. Stupid ****. Anyway, I love this. It's powerful, it's energetic, it's melodic; great riffs, powerful drumming, even the singing doesn't bother me as it used to. Not a clue what he's saying of course – could be reading off his to-do list – but it's awesome, as you guys over there say. Oddly enough, from the cover and the name I assumed these guys would be European, most likely German or some ex-Soviet Bloc country, but no, they're 'Muricans. Cool. Check out more from this artist? Yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes, I've been slowly and tentatively making inroads into the Black stuff... Expectation Index: 0

i can't think of any other albums that came out in January that I loved, so I'll throw you one that I actually still can't make up my mind on. idk how you feel about metalcore but this album is kind of a cluster **** of metal influences combined with some melodic moments and most importantly it's heavy as ****. (couldn't find one vid for the whole album but managed to find a playlist)

As for Code Orange, did it (it's on the main list) and it'll be making an appearance in the top twenty tomorrow. Which one, Good or Bad? Ah now, that would be telling!

Firstly, my issue was with you calling me foolish, not the idea: your actual quote was "You're foolish" not "This is foolish." That annoyed me. Secondly, if I was snippy to you since then I really don't see it but if so then I apologise, as I had no intention of being so. Of course we can have a truce: you know I love ya! Just sit back and enjoy the ride, and don't worry about the work I'm doing. That's my own choice. Sorry if I seemed to be over-sensitive about it. Quote:
As a matter of interest, I could have sworn I did that Code Orange album but no, it's nowhere to be found. So I guess I'll have a listen to it.

Now, I know how you guys just love statistics, so before I move on to February, stand by for the January stats, along with, as already promised, the top twenty good and bad albums of the first month.

Album title: Feed the Rats Artist: Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Suggested by: Frownland Genre: Psych Rock/Sludge Metal Nationality: English Release date: January 20 (Is there something about this date? All of the albums Frownland suggested seem to have been released on this date!) Position in Discography: Third Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.20 Only three tracks, though two of them run for over fifteen minutes. I don't know: to me it's just one guy shouting over some guitar riffs, though admittedly I'm no guitar player, so maybe it's very innovative; just didn't seem so to me. At one point a helicopter went overhead very low, and obviously very loud. I didn't even bother to pause the recording. That's how much I cared about this. I did finish it though, if that counts for anything? Meh. Just didn't appeal to me. Check out more from this artist? No Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Don't know; maybe Expectation Index: 0

Album title: Forever Artist: Code Orange Suggested by: Qwertyy Genre: Hardcore Punk/Metalcore Nationality: American Release date: January 13 Position in Discography: Third Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.06 Sounds something of a mess from the beginning. Hate the vocals (hands up who's surprised?) and don't particularly like the riffs. Nah, me bollocks. I'm out of here. And we are done. This is, hands down, one of the worst albums I have ever listened to in my life. I think I include Merzbow in that. Jesus! Make it stop, coach! (I tell you, I was going to use my first ever “Oh Hell No!” but I wanted to at least give the album a chance, to see if there was anything there. There isn't). Check out more from this artist? Not in this life Check out more from this genre or subgenre? No, if I can avoid it Expectation Index: 0
