Well that's me fucked then isn't it?
There I was, happily tooling along, expecting to be finished January by the end of this month, ie tomorrow. I'd got through the dreaded, album-packed January 20 and was heading for the finish line when suddenly BAM! It hits me. Yeah: on January 27 - wait for it - thirty-two albums were released! Oh fuck! Ah well, so much for finishing in September! On we go then...

Album title: Silhouettes Artist: Aquilo Genre: Indie/Dream Pop Nationality: British Release date: January 27 Position in Discography: Debut Fear Factor: Low Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Not much Average RYM Score: 2.55 First impressions: a-ha, Coldplay. Hmm. A nice track to start off with, the guy has a very soulful voice. I will say, we're three tracks in and I could do with an uptempo song. It's a little emo and dreary at the moment, but I hope it will pick up soon. I think I could get on board with this though. Quite impressed. Okay, now we're grooving. Ahead: groove factor five! Things are picking up a little with “Never Hurt Again” but then they go into the slow and melancholy again, and to be honest there's kind of only so much you can take of that. It gets not only depressing but quite boring. Still, there's time yet for this to be turned around. “Complication” has a nice soul groove to it, like this one a lot. I also dig “Never Seen You Get So Low”, even though it's one of the slower tracks. “Low Light” is great too; think they're making an effort to have a big finish. Oh yeah: “Always Done What You Say” continues the high quality and it ends brilliantly. Literally a slow start, but man did it kick arse in the end. Excellent. Check out more from this artist? Oh yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 0

Album title: No Secrets Artist: Barry Zito Genre: Country Nationality: American Release date: January 27 Position in Discography: Debut Fear Factor: Low to Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Some Average RYM Score: N/A I certainly like the guitar tone as it starts, and the guy's voice is proper country. We have steel guitars too, so it's a good start. Again it's just an EP, six tracks only. Seems he used to be a professional baseball player, so you Americans may know of him. He may even be a star, for all I know (or care) but he's certainly impressing me with his country music talents here. Voice sort of reminds me of the late great Harry Chapin. Yeah, this is the kind of country I like: you can hear real life experience in there, and there's heart and soul in his voice. Could be a great change of career for him. Check out more from this artist? I'll be watching Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yeah, I like my country if it's done right Expectation Index: 3

Actually I find Soul Provider a decent album, but no, not really a fan after that.
