Heard one song Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Yes Average RYM Score: 3.39 Good start to this short EP with a powerful emotional rocker (also the title track) followed by an anthemic half-ballad, and basically every track here (five only) is gold. Need to hear more of these guys. Check out more from this artist? Aye Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Actual Rating:

Album title: Harry Styles Artist: Harry Styles Genre: BritPop/Soft Rock/Rock Nationality: English Release date: May 12 Position in Discography: Debut solo Estimated Rating: Familiar with this artist? Of course I've heard of him Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Yes Average RYM Score: 2.94 Sigh. What a day. Some mostly below-average albums, a Swedish boyband and now a solo album from my least favourite boyband of all time. Sigh, I say. Well at least it doesn't sound like a pop album, with some acoustic guitar and then a nice piano ballad kicking it off, folky feel to “Sweet Creature” and an attempt at hard rock in “Only Angel”. Not sure what market our Harry is shooting for here: I imagine One Direction fans will hate this, as it's a far more “mature” record than they'd expect, and genuine rock fans are likely to sneer at it as the boyband member tries to play “real” music and, it must be said, fails on pretty much every front. I guess his name sold the album by itself, but I find myself wondering how many of his devoted fans bought it and were disappointed with it? Pretty blatant attempt to cash in on the audience beyond the teenybopper set, but you don't fool me, Harry: you're still a ****. Check out more from this artist? Nah Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Actual Rating:

Album title: Alter Egos Artist: Ingrid Michaelson Genre: Pop (?) Nationality: American Release date: May 12 Position in Discography: Ninth EP; sixteenth overall Estimated Rating: Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Um... Average RYM Score: 2.77 Another five-track EP, this time from American singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson. Starts off well, with a nice piano ballad and a yearning vocal*, very soulful. She seems to have a very impressive voice I must say; I could see her doing soul, folk or gospel, and at the moment I'd very much contest the genre tag here. Singer/songwriter (I know that's not a genre, but it's the most accurate description for this music I can come up with) or folk, maybe even a little on the soul side? Pop is way too generic though for this. Tinges of country in there too. Very very impressive. Check out more from this artist? Oh yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes (whatever it is) Actual Rating: * **** off Batty.

Album title: Common Sense Artist: J Hus Genre: Afrobeat/Hip-hop/Dance hall/R&B Nationality: American Release date: May 12 Position in Discography: Debut Estimated Rating: Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.93 Impressive from the off; soul melodies with a decent rap behind them, a lot of different styles too. “Plottin” is a good if slightly ominous track, though the happy, upbeat rhythms on “Sweet Cheeks” counterpoint this, “Spirit” and “Mash Up” are two good tracks too. I can respect what he's doing here, and can see how it'll appeal to a lot of people, but I'm just a little bored now (track 14 of 17) and I don't think this is for me. Check out more from this artist? Probably unlikely Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Some, yes Actual Rating:

Just in general.
Nah, I was waiting for you to start jeering at my use of the phrase "yearning vocal". There, you can do so now. I'm just telling you to **** off in advance. No offence.

When I notice that my writing is bad, I either double down on it or try to make it better. Lashing out at people seems counterproductive.
