I believe I may have heard of Cast but I've never heard anything from them and have no idea what to expect. The genre is a little broad, to say the least, and doesn't give any sort of a clue as to what they might sound like. It's half-decent so far, though I wouldn't go mad over it. Right, well “Paper Chains” is the first song that grabs my attention, and the next two are good also. “How Can We Lose” has a nice bluesy feeling to it, but overall I'd say just another rock album, good and all, but nothing special and nothing I'll be coming back to.

Note: not that anyone cares, but the colour scheme on the album cover really mirrors that of Arena's album Contagion. Well, I find it interesting.

Maybe you're just too dumb to have understood that I was winkwinknudgenudge referencing that scene and therefore using the clip in absentia.

Good start, pounding rocker (for a country song) with a good melody, then “Southern by the Grace of God” is pretty cool too. There's a healthy mix of humour in his music which I haven't yet decided if it's contrived or honest, and whether it helps or hinders the music. “Lawn Chair Don't Care” is pretty funny though. I think it's decent country but it's not what I'd call top tier, not compared to a lot of the artists I've heard during this thread. Better than pop country, sure, but not as good as proper country. He said, as if he knew anything about it.

Well the singer sounds about seven years old and this puts me right off from the beginning. In fact, it puts me off so much that though the album is almost over now I've been able to hear only her childish voice and I can't get past that. I don't think the music is particularly anything to write home about anyway, but it's totally overwhelmed in my mind by her crazy little-girl voice and that's all I can hear.

Immediately the fusion of Latin beats and jazz is pretty infectious I must say, the percussion in particular. The bass and drums leading in “Wise Bata Blues” and then the squealing horns are pretty cool. This music is certainly keeping my attention anyway. The vibes or marimba (which is it?) on “La Cancha” are golden, and when they're joined by some violins it's just perfection. You would think that wild horns like those on “Augustine Parish” would drive me mad, as it's the kind of thing I hate, but no: something about the Latin beat sort of softens them or makes them more palatable, and I'm enjoying everything here so far. The piano on “Life” is beautiful, though the vocal kind of spoils it for me.

The chant that attends “The Uprising” is really, for me, more a sense of world music fused with jazz, and it's very uplifting and joyous. The Latin percussion melds really well with the piano and horns, the whole thing just fits together so well. There we go: another jazz album I really loved. What's happening to me?

Check out more from this artist? Well yeah but he has like over forty albums so, you know, not right away...
