Porter Ray - Watercolor

Will come back with two more when I have more time to think about it.

Album title: Starlight
Artist: Jon Stevens
Genre: Rock
Nationality: Australian
Release date: March 31
Position in Discography: Tenth
Fear Factor: Moderate
Familiar with this artist? No
Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Yes
Average RYM Score: 3.00
Kicks off well with a smoking rocker, then dips into almost gospel territory, tinged with a mighty helping of blues for “Oh Lord” and then kind of AOR for “Feel Like Letting Go” with a large nod to Bon Jovi. I'd say this guy is sort of like John Farnham, only, you know, good. Like the previous album, so far, there hasn't really been a single bad track. “Devil in My Heart” continues this run of superb quality, “One Way Street” is an excellent ballad which features Ringo Starr, not that anyone cares (though it does have a very Beatles feel to it; I don't know if he had a hand in writing it or not) and the title track just kills it, giving the album a big finish, though in reality it started well and never dipped below a high water mark for quality. Got to hear more of this guy.

Check out more from this artist? Absolutely
Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes

Expectation Index: 10

Note: change to rating system.

As some people seem to be having a problem with linking Fear Factor with the Expectation Index, and, more importantly, as the three Fear Factor, um, factors I've chosen to use - Low, Moderate and High - don't really allow me to properly address my prediction as to how I'll react to the album, I'm abandoning both and now using a much simpler system.

Thought you'd all appreciate that.

From the next album on, Fear Factor will be replaced by Estimated Rating, which will use the same speedometer as I do for the actual ratings, and Actual Rating, which will be, well, the actual rating. That way you, and I, can see at a glance for an album how on the money I was, or how far off. I'm sure I don't need to explain further.

IF I get a chance (but it's highly doubtful) I MAY go back and adjust the last two/three hundred-odd albums I've used the previous system on, but in all likelihood I'll just leave them as they are and proceed with this from today.

I think you should call estimated rating something like pre-listening expectation

One other thing: I don't do greatest hits/compilations, so if that other one is a greatest hits, you're gonna have to switch that one out too. Sorry. Check the OP.
