Ja it's boring and uninspired as **** but that **** is like Dancer in the Dark or the opening scene from Up.

Album title: Mesmer Artist: Northlane Genre: Metalcore/Progressive Metal Nationality: Australian Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Fourth Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? Not metalcore, but prog metal, yes Average RYM Score: 2.85 Perhaps I was put off by the metalcore tag, resulting in my awarding this a Fear Factor higher than it should be, as it seems more in line with prog metal and post-hardcore than anything else, however four tracks in and I'm distinctly unimpressed. Seems a bit formless, but we'll see. Nothing has so far leapt out at me. And still nothing has. This is now halfway through the album, so I have to admit I don't expect any huge seismic shift here. I don't actually think this is metalcore – as I can understand the vocals – but it's also not very good. Bleh. Check out more from this artist? No Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 0

I get less than nothing out of that album on a musical level but it is traumatizingly depressing.

simplicity can be beautiful especially if it comes from the heart

This is true, but it doesn't apply to the simplicity found on that album. The beauty in that record is in its lyrical content alone.

the instrumentation does a great job of complimenting the lyrics while never pulling the listeners away from them. it does exactly what it should.

Wrong. Instrumentation should not assist in boring the **** out of me.
