Scott Stapp actually sounds pretty good with Art Of Anarchy, which is more than I can say for his time in Creed. Not bad for modern bro-rock.

Album title: The Valley Artist: Betty Who Genre: Synthpop/Electro House/Dance Pop Nationality: Australian Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Second Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.66 Well that's certainly different: an acapella song to start off with, and very nice too. A promising start, but the next track is a dancy pop tune that could be any of a dozen pop divas, and so is most of the rest. Decent enough pop I guess if you're into that sort of thing. “Wanna Be” stands out as different, and “Blue Heaven Midnight Crush” is good too. Ok, it did get better towards the end, in fairness. Check out more from this artist? On balance, probably not Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 3

Kinda thought the same. Not trying to spend time with an actual album but if it came on the radio I wouldn't feel the urge to change the station.

Album title: Won't Let You Down Artist: Bridget Kearney Genre: Funk/Soul/Pop Nationality: American Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Debut Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.69 With a name like that I expected she'd be Irish, but though there may be some of the green in her blood, she's American. Second track is nice, has a real Bowie feel about it. Pleasant enough, kind of touches of Deacon Blue in there too., espeically in “Wash Up”. A good mix here, not bad at all. Not sure I'd listen twice, but not time wasted by any means. Check out more from this artist? Might Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 3

Album title: World Underwater Artist: CLAVVS Genre: Electronic/Trip-hop/Synthpop Nationality: American Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Third Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: N/A Sounds to me like School of Seven Bells; apparently the founder is well-known, one Graham Marsh. It's all very nice, low key, sort of dark in its way. “Serpentine” stands out to me, and “Girl” has some really good ideas in there. I'd say I pretty much like everything here. Check out more from this artist? Yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 8

Album title: We All Want the Same Things Artist: Craig Finn Genre: Indie Rock Nationality: American Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Third Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.38 My immediate impression when this kicks off is Springsteen; he sounds really like him. The lyrics are very everyman, like Waits of the aforementioned Boss, and the music is excellent. Then “God in Chicago” is basically him talking over a piano line, though he does sing the chorus. Very effective and very different. This is wonderful stuff. There's nothing here I don't love. Highly impressed. Check out more from this artist? Oh yes Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Yes Expectation Index: 10

Album title: Eternity, In Your Arms Artist: Creeper Genre: Horror Punk/Punk/Post-Hardcore Nationality: English Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Debut Fear Factor: High Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 2.84 Apparently a concept based loosely on characters from J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, this would be my first experience of Horror Punk, but it sounds more rocky – post-hardcore maybe, as some seem to have suggested? - than punk. It's certainly engaging and draws you in with its narrative about a paranormal investigator who has gone missing. The music is very very catchy, almost radio-friendly, with some fine hooks in songs like “Hiding With the Boys”, “Winona Forever” and the powerful acoustic “Misery”, while the piano sequence in “Down Below” is particularly effective. If any of these tracks sounds like punk to me (or what I think of punk as) it's probably “Darling” and “Room 309”, the latter of which is a frantic, frenetic anthem, though it does slow down on some chunky guitar and ends on a superb acoustic with a duet vocal. The acoustic continues on into “Crickets”, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Bowie's “Five Years” and also wanders into country territory with some fine violin and a female vocal. Really excellent album, and a big big surprise to me. Check out more from this artist? I will Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Probably Expectation Index: 10

Album title: Grow Up Artist: Desperate Journalist Genre: Post-punk/Indie Rock Nationality: English Release date: March 24 Position in Discography: Second Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.26 Initial impression is that there seems to be a very bleak feel to this, almost Depeche Mode without the synths, and it appears to be very bass-driven, kind of sparse and lean, though it fills out much more solidly as the second track gets underway. “Purple” reminds me of U2 (shut it) and overall I'd say a solid album with really no bad tracks, but still kind of failed to engage me for the whole album, not quite sure why. Check out more from this artist? I wouldn't be in a massive hurry to Check out more from this genre or subgenre? Meh, if I have to Expectation Index: 4

Feeling A Little Down At The Moment To say the least. I don't know if anyone has noticed it in my last few reviews, but I just can't muster the enthusiasm for this at the moment. It's nothing to do with this thread; I haven't wanted really to do anything. I'm just really really depressed and disheartened in general. I'm not chucking this thread, by any means, but for the last few days I've found myself getting more and more depressed. So I'm taking a few days off, or maybe a week, just from this thread and anything that requires effort or dedication. I'll still be around, but don't expect to see any reviews here for a little while. Hopefully this will pass and I'll be back at it soon, but for now I don't want to write when I have no interest in doing so.
