Album title: Hot Thoughts Artist: Spoon Genre: Indie Pop/Art Pop Nationality: American Release date: March 17 Position in Discography: Ninth Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? Heard one album; don't remember being particularly impressed by it but don't recall hating it either Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.37 Seven tracks in and I really can't point to anything that leaped out and impressed me about this. It's not bad, not at all, but I don't see it being anything other than just okay. Yeah it's just one massive meh really. Actually, “Shotgun” is a decent track. There: I said something nice about the album. The closer is clever too, sort of an experimental/avant-garde instrumental. That was different. Check out more from this artist? I don't know what I find more amusing, that TH likes Rick Ross or that he actually knew what dead presidents meant.

Album title: Live From the Fox Oakland Artist: Tedeschi Trucks Band Genre: Southern Rock/Blues Nationality: American Release date: March 17 Position in Discography: Second live; fifth overall Fear Factor: Low Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? No Average RYM Score: 3.81 Got to admit, when I saw the name of this band I worried they were some corporate entity sponsored by a motor vehicle manufacturer (Tedeschi Trucks get you where you want to go!) but it turns out that it's just the surnames of both the founders, however odd Trucks may seem a surname. Oh, I see he was in the Allman Brothers Band. Interesting. And they're husband and wife. Ah, live albums! While I do like them, they can be hell to review, as you end up with, as we found with Jerry Garcia's band, very long versions of songs, and I already see three ten-minute tracks, an eleven and one clocking in at over fourteen. Ah well. It's really hard not to like this. It's just basically one big jam. I mean, Clapton's “Keep on Growing”, Cohen's “Bird on a Wire”, Harrison's “Within You, Without You”, how can you go wrong? Throw in some Miles Davis, some Santana, and a whole heap of their own material, some serious guitar playing, and well you'd have to have a heart of stone not to be into this. Album title: So Good Artist: Zara Larsson Genre: Pop Nationality: Swedish Release date: March 17 Position in Discography: Second Fear Factor: Moderate Familiar with this artist? No Familiar with the genre or subgenre? A little Average RYM Score: 2.54 Meh, so far just another Rihanna/Beyonce/Swift/Add generic pop artist here clone; nothing new, nothing special, voice is generic, music is bleh. She says on the Wiki page that there are a lot of different styles on the album, but so far I've heard nothing but bargain basement pop. I don't see it. “Only You” is the first song I hear here that isn't terrible, but it's still pretty meh. The semi-reggae beat is really the only thing that distinguishes it from the rest of the general pap here. No, I didn't misspell. The song “Never Forget You” could not be more wrong: I won't remember a thing about this album once I shut it off, nor will I want to. Meh, “Make That Money Girl” is also not terrible, but these are single tracks standing out among pretty much a pile of unremarkable dross. Okay, “One Mississippi” is okay too, but I have yet to hear any of these “darker songs” to which she refers. Got a little better towards the end, but still nothing I'd be raving about.
