Just an idea: random album of the whatever - day, week, month?
 

Meh, just had the idea, see what people think before I waste my time making an actual thread. Select a random album from say RYM or maybe Bandcamp, however frequently we want to (probably every week) and get people's thoughts on it. Basically, the Album Club but with very much a random element added. Anyone interested at all? Should I just show myself out?

Sure, I'd be up for that. It'll probably take a few tries per album to find a release that's easily available online since the unavailable ones probably far outnumber the ones that are on Spotify, YouTube, etc.

Give it some time then. Maybe some of the people in the regular Album Club will be interested?

Okay, what I'm saying is that, rather than choose an album we know and love and try to convince others to like it, we literally take one at random - could be one we know anyway (though unlikely if we use the Bandcamp thing) or could be totally new to us all - and then we listen to it, whatever it may be, and talk about it. Pretty much the same as the Album Club except we're choosing a random album every week, or whatever time period we decide to go with. Might be more interesting. As I said, just an idea, and an attempt to get people talking about music none of us may know. Who knows? We may end up unearthing some gems. Or some abortions. Either way, it could be fun.

Luckily, we haven't started yet, so move away from the James Last album, slowly now, slowly, we don't want to do anything we might regret....

So in all seriousness, we have GiganticDebaser, Occult and Mord so far, and me, yes? Four. Not bad. Anyone else interested? We can probably make this work with four, but more would be better.

Ah, who needs 'em? I'm gonna build my own club, with blackjack, and hookers. In fact, forget the club! :D

What sort of frequency do you guys think would be reasonable? Weekly? It won't be expected to be as in-depth as the Album Club so I could do daily, but I don't know how others feel?

If there isn't gonna be the same expectation of participation as in the album club, then a higher frequency could work. Some days, I'll barely be on the forum and some days I won't feel like I have the mental energy to listen to new music. Daily seem like a bit much, but again, if participation is more loose, then it wouldn't hurt. I'm thinking 2-3 a week seems reasonable.

Personally, I think weekly would be frequent enough, but it wouldn't really bother me if the frequency was higher, since there's no album-submitter privilege or w/e

Yeah, it'll be a lot looser - the participation, not my anal cavity: that's a whole other story! :laughing: - with few rules. Basically, the order in which an album is picked (via signup time as in the other club) and how often we want to do them. Other than that, I don't see any need for a gold-embossed, leatherbound volume of do's and do-not-do's.
I'd like to kick this off by Monday. I'm a gonna open an actual thread now.
