SOPHIE, if she releases some good followup material this year
Kanye's releases this year will be considered classics
Matana Roberts the jazz goddess will definitely be a genre legend
Flying Lotus
BADBADNOTGOOD

Jazz is so saturated with great talent right now it’s really hard to say.

I will say Colin Stetson for sure for sure

BBNG was pretty well received up until their third record.

I agree on the legendary status of the vaporwave figureheads. I kind of feel the same way about RTJ, too. Their success was an early example of how underground artists could get a kind of mainstream notoriety through internet marketing. I think they'll be remembered and respected, but I don't think that many people will be listening to them in 20 years. They could turn that on its head but it seems like they've slipped into a formula.

They're definitely far from a sour legacy. IV was fairly well received and if they release this year they could hypothetically top it.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like many people (unfairly) write them off as a kind of gimmicky band. They seem to be more well known for their miscellaneous hip hop work than for their talented studio work.

Do you think that that saturation works in her favour if she's recognized as far as being a classic jazz artist goes?

As much as I don't care for it, QOTSA's ...Like Clockwork maybe.

and Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition, though I'm pretty sure that was mentioned already at the start of the thread.

I do think that they're somewhat gimmicky in that I find them a bit style over substance at times. That's probably why I put them down as a classic artist that people will remember. Bitches love gimmicks.

Danny Brown in general I feel is not only gonna leave a great repertoire of XXX, Old and Atrocity Exhibition, but he's also gonna roar into 2020. Just a hunch.

Yeah because this is a golden age. I just think, for me at least, it’s very hard to see the forest for the trees when it comes to this era’s jazz greats. Just one example but to me Jaimie Branch is equally exciting- it’s really hard to say.

Frownland 01-16-2019 11:00 PM

I would've listed Jaimie Branch if she had one or two more albums under her belt that are as strong as Fly or Die. Though looking at her wiki she's done some collabs I haven't heard yet.

Idk if they've been mentioned yet but all of Tame Impala's records are going to be definite classics and will be remembered for making neo-psych cool again (among other things).
