...uhh... I clearly stated it´s my own personal opinion. No need to get bitchy or salty here, fanboy!

A pretty bog standard personal opinion tbh.

i luv it

I was not sheeting on pop, I was sheeting on artists I personally think are mediocre. It´s just a coincidence most of them do pop music, but I can name ****ty urban latin trap artists like Bad Bunny and Arcangel to set a different example and genre if you want.

But personal nonetheless.
Another personal opinion and in relation to Kesha, I actually think she did a very good job on her 2017 record. I admit the album´s name is slipping my mind (Rainbows comes to mind), but her vocals were terrific. Her collaboration with Eagles of Death Metal and the slower and acoustic tracks were my personal favorites. Good job indeed, K

The Batlord 12-18-2017 07:11 PM

The only true Arkangel.

Rule, number 456. Never dis ICP, Ke$ha (who dropped the $ by the way), or Motley Crue, or else Batlord will turn you into a newt

I respect her decision to drop the "$", and I'll use "s" when talking about her newer material, but as far as pre-Rainbow music goes and in general she's still "Ke$ha" to me. The dollar sign is life.

Frownland 01-16-2019 01:32 PM

Bump.

In addition to the OP, who will be the defining artists of the 2010s?

OccultHawk 01-16-2019 01:51 PM

Brockhampton
Odd Future (members)
Future
Purity Ring
John Maus
Solange
Anohni

???

Frownland 01-16-2019 02:19 PM

Solange and Anohni would be nice but kinda wishful thinking imo. Brockhampton's a shoe-in but it'll be interesting to see how their image evolves as they grow noticeably more corporate.

Death Grips, Kamasi Washington (unfortunately) and Kendrick all come to mind for me. I also think that a new generation of listeners is going to recognize the current incarnation of Swans as a defining 2010s artist. Deafheaven and OPN could work their way into the mix too.

OccultHawk 01-16-2019 02:36 PM

Maybe Beach House?

Unitron 01-16-2019 02:38 PM

Probably a Vektor album.

I would love to say Clutch's Earth Rocker or Psychic Warfare, but I don't know if Clutch will ever be popular enough to reach classic status among many music fans unfortunately.

Mondo Bungle 01-16-2019 02:40 PM

Cleric - Regressions
Grimes - Art Angels
Swans

Anteater 01-16-2019 06:34 PM

Probably The Midnight and their ilk from the synthwave scene. GUNSHIP's album last year was a massive sensation on Reddit too.

FaSho 01-16-2019 06:55 PM

Agree with much of what's been said to this point, would also like to throw fleet foxes, the national and lorde into the conversation. Tons of mainstream/critical appeal while being liked or at least tolerated by 'real music fans' as well

Zhanteimi 01-16-2019 07:33 PM

Mac Demarco is so fucking boring, so yeah, 2 will probably be a classic.

windsock 01-16-2019 08:56 PM

I realize Ys is Joanna Newsom's crowning achievement but I feel like two albums that follow it will be considered classics of chamber folk.

Frownland 01-16-2019 09:22 PM

I think that Hans Zimmer penetrated the public consciousness this decade.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
SOPHIE, if she releases some good followup material this year
Kanye's releases this year will be considered classics
Matana Roberts the jazz goddess will definitely be a genre legend
Flying Lotus
BADBADNOTGOOD

Good call

windsock 01-16-2019 09:50 PM

Most definitely Flying Lotus and King Gizzard. I'm not sure about BBNG cause I haven't seen their albums get massive acclaim like many others in this thread. I could be wrong though and haven't looked in the right places.

I would also put forward that many vaporwave artists are going to be looked back on with somewhat legendary status (not specifically for how good their music was but more for the cultural phenomenon it represented), such as Macintosh Plus/Vektroid, Blank Banshee and MACROSS 82-99.

Jazz is so saturated with great talent right now it’s really hard to say.

I will say Colin Stetson for sure for sure

Frownland 01-16-2019 09:59 PM

BBNG was pretty well received up until their third record.

I agree on the legendary status of the vaporwave figureheads. I kind of feel the same way about RTJ, too. Their success was an early example of how underground artists could get a kind of mainstream notoriety through internet marketing. I think they'll be remembered and respected, but I don't think that many people will be listening to them in 20 years. They could turn that on its head but it seems like they've slipped into a formula.

They're definitely far from a sour legacy. IV was fairly well received and if they release this year they could hypothetically top it.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like many people (unfairly) write them off as a kind of gimmicky band. They seem to be more well known for their miscellaneous hip hop work than for their talented studio work.

Do you think that that saturation works in her favour if she's recognized as far as being a classic jazz artist goes?

Unitron 01-16-2019 10:09 PM

As much as I don't care for it, QOTSA's ...Like Clockwork maybe.

and Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition, though I'm pretty sure that was mentioned already at the start of the thread.

I do think that they're somewhat gimmicky in that I find them a bit style over substance at times. That's probably why I put them down as a classic artist that people will remember. Bitches love gimmicks.

Danny Brown in general I feel is not only gonna leave a great repertoire of XXX, Old and Atrocity Exhibition, but he's also gonna roar into 2020. Just a hunch.

Yeah because this is a golden age. I just think, for me at least, it’s very hard to see the forest for the trees when it comes to this era’s jazz greats. Just one example but to me Jaimie Branch is equally exciting- it’s really hard to say.

Frownland 01-16-2019 11:00 PM

I would've listed Jaimie Branch if she had one or two more albums under her belt that are as strong as Fly or Die. Though looking at her wiki she's done some collabs I haven't heard yet.

windsock 01-18-2019 06:36 AM

Idk if they've been mentioned yet but all of Tame Impala's records are going to be definite classics and will be remembered for making neo-psych cool again (among other things).

Frownland 01-28-2019 10:10 AM

Denzel Curry's Taboo will probably reach classic status.

windsock 01-28-2019 03:19 PM

As will Travis Scott's Rodeo.

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 02-01-2019 05:25 PM

Tame Impala - Lonerism

Neapolitan 02-01-2019 11:41 PM

This isn't a complete list. Actually these albums are from my journal. The albums highlighted in blue are particular albums I really like. And yes I think they are classics. The others in regular text are serious contenders. (There are probably more albums I could add. I might edit them in later.)
