I have about 7,000 LPs at present, though I've purged several hundred to trim the fat. Using a Denon DP-60L rosewood table with an Ortofon 2M Red. I've gone through a few McIntosh integrated and power amplifiers but for the last few years, I've been sticking with a vintage Yamaha integrated unit that I've had since my first ventures into vinyl in high school. For speakers, I'm using a beefy pair of Focal 814v floor speakers which really work well in my listening room.

In the thrifting heyday (now long passed), I assembled a solid collection of classic rock, blues, and jazz, as well as a number of "why'd they bother?" oddball LPs. From there I got into collecting 1960s synth and other early electronic records, which got me into musique concrete and kosmische musik.

In college, I picked up all of Pfunk's extended catalog and a lot of great funk classics before my descent into the madness of electronic and ambient music which to date makes up the majority of my collection. I've an appraised static database of the entire collection and I cataloged my top 500 LPs on Discogs, but my rarer titles don't have entries on the site so I'll eventually have to add them manually.

I'm not really into it anymore. I think that the compulsive collecting was an attempt to fill a void in my life that I've since satisfied. (Which is good news because I was shelling out more than $1600 a year on wax.) Recently I've been developing a music journal - a living document cataloging my exploration and discoveries which I hope can serve as a legacy of mine once I'm gone. It feels like a more productive and satisfying use of my musical energy.

But I'll always have a special place in my heart for those shiny black discs.

Here's my Discogs collection.

I bought a bunch of records to sell through a dude who cleans out dead people houses. Lots of stuff to name that I won't right now...

BUT

The biggest score was an original copy of The Grodeck Whipperjenny's self titled album. They're James Brown's backup band.

It's not in super great condition. Very noisy play but it can be cleaned. If I do clean it, it could be worth over $200. The most it sold for was almost $350. If I do decide to sell it. It'll be an eBay auction so that I might get the most bang out of it.

Still probably the best find I've scored.

Right now I'd sell it for $100 but I really want to see if I can clean it. Plus, I like having it right now lol. Feels nice to have something this rare. The cleaning is the difference between $100 and $200. I'll let you know what happens.
