Artists you are surprised you used to not like
Here's yet another one of my many semi ****post threads. Are there any artists you love now for which it's hard to imagine you once didn't like them? If so, when and hoe did you change your mind?
Also I like balls. |

I used to hate Bruce Springsteen until I listened more to the song Born in the USA much more often, then I began to appreciate him. Also part of the factor was his hot wife Patti Scialfa who made great melodies with Bruce.

One time, shortly after a breakup, I went to see !!! in the hopes of being cheered up by jumping around to some dance punk. The opener was SunnO))), who I had never even heard of at the time. I still think this was a really weird pairing of bands. Anyway, with the mood I was in, glacially slow, heavy-ass, beatless, melancholy guitar drones were the last thing in the world I was in the mood for, and so I came away from the show hating SunnO))). For quite a while I considered them the worst band I had ever heard—in fact, they kind of became my benchmark for awful bands. But the funny thing is that I thought of them as the nadir of music long enough that it started to make me curious about them. Eventually, I got so curious that, two years after I had seen them, I bought one of their albums. Not only did I end up liking it, and getting more of their albums, but reading about them is what introduced me to Earth, who ended up being among my favorite bands.

I didn't like Ayler the first time I heard him, but I didn't even listen to jazz at the time so it's not that surprising.
