3 Questions About Music

Since this is my 1000th post (my proudest achievement yet in life), I figured it ought to be an attempt at saying something constructive. So here's a few questions. Answer 1 or more as you please.

(1) Is there an artist whose music you appreciate that you are convinced not a single person on MB has ever heard about?

(2) Are there any songs that nearly move you to tears every time you hear them?

(3) What are some songs where you feel like the singer(s) pulls off an exceptionally amazing performance? Subjectively speaking, not necessarily in terms of technique or range, although it can also be for that exact reason.

(4) What are some songs where you feel like the singer(s) pulls off an exceptionally BORING performance? Subjectively speaking, not necessarily in terms of technique or range, although it can also be for that exact reason.

Ok so that ended up being 4 questions, but whatever.

Ok so that ended up being 4 questions, but whatever.

(1) I think there might be a few - all would either flamenco artists from Spain or obscure Adelaide bands. I'll go with (now deceased) flamenco guitarist "Parrilla de Jerez" - he has 4 albums which are very hard to get.

(2) MANY - some really embarrassing. Like 'Roam' from the B52s.

(3) Jeff Buckley So Real

(4) Anything by Matchbox 20 or Nickleback

I love this album of his. He does this alegrías style piece,
"Recordando a Javier" which is a real joy to hear!

I should have remembered that you are on this forum, meaning that to answer question 1 correctly it has to be something pretty obscure. I'll change my choice to Adelaide (ex Canberra) band The Bedridden.

I'll take this opportunity to promote a local artist who might fit the bill since most of the stuff that I regularly listen to will be listened to by at least one person here, and that speaks more to the level of education on this site than how obscure my tastes are.

The guy is Kyle Motl. I saw a performance of his where he carried the lifeless and uninventive saxophonist and he really earned my respect there.

This band's neat too

The best type of singers for me are ones like Arrington de Dionyso and Mark Stewart who really put their full voice and energy into their music.

And as far as performances go, this is probably one of the greatest vocal live displays of all time.

Probably someone like Elis Regina, since in all the time I've been on MB one thing that's been consistent is that people pay almost no attention at all to music from South or Central America.

Sure. Believe it or not, the song "When I Grow Up" from the cast recording of the musical Matilda chokes me up every single time I hear it for some reason.

"Papaoutai" by Stromae. His vocals in this song hit me on an emotional level that is truly gut wrenching. The fact that I don't understand French yet am still affected this way tells me it's just something pure and emotionally raw in his delivery that does it.

(4) What are some songs where you feel like the singer(s) pulls off an exceptionally BORING performance? Subjectively speaking, not necessarily in terms of technique or range, although it can also be for that exact reason.
"Tuff Enuff" by The Fabulous Thunderbirds. This song is pure blooz rock cheese through and through but the singer's boring ass, trying-too-hard-to-sound-tuff vocals really push it over the top in worst song ever territory.

performing that bring big tears to my eyes every time I watch them.

She was absolutely incredible.
There are some duets she does with Toots
that are worth checking out and this version,
for example, of "Upa Neguinho"
is so effortlessly done by her:
