Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

And modern classical is just random noise?

This thread sucks

So listen to lots of music, but be ok with the fact that most of it wont be your new favorite thing or even all that appealing to you. Then one day, you suddenly find yourself loving Peruvian folk music and Italian opera. Music works in mysterious ways.

Also just listen to your old favorites whenever you don't have the energy to deal with new things. Works great for me to cycle between new things and old favorites.
I think it's indeed the expectations that kill me. I love the current music I love so much I expect more Everytime I invest into an artist. Most investments ends up disappointing.

I completely understand this. Especially being a horrorcore fan.

When I was more your age, I also had relatively few favorites that stayed on top for years. Helloween, Ozzy, Megadeth, Metallica, No Doubt, Kylie... and that was about it. For a long time. Then, in my late 20's, I started expanding my tastes rapidly. These days I find a few new artists that blow my mind every year.

My theory is that you've got to lay some sort of groundwork first, where you just sort of learn to appreciate different kinds of things. Then you're going to be more open to the experiences you get. Some of the things I love today, I actually dismissed as boring years ago: Rickie Lee Jones, Carly Simon, Carole King... I had listened to all of them years ago and found they weren't my thing. Then I tried again earlier this year and... I love them!
So it seems that I just wasn't ready yet, back then.

I already abandon the video games I buy way too much to game even less. Stories don't hold my attention for long, I often need to force myself and it's just not as fun as games and music, so I consume them occasionally. I have serveral hobbies, they just don't hold my interest because anything that costs effort is just not worth it. Really, Music is the easiest to consume of all and brings me the most joy, though I do have much more of an attachment to and appriciation of games for whatever reason, probably because I have actual opinions on them that aren't just ''This is really enjoyable'' and ''this bores me''. I still really really enjoy the music I already love btw. But everytime I look for new bands it all blurs together to annoying degrees and it makes me not want to listen to anything for that entire day. It feels awful and like you're oversaturated. Now I get why the masses don't look for artists on their own.
