I am pretty meh on U2... I can appreciate the wide reaching acclaim they have received. I even own two of their records on cd (Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree). They were pretty good when I was first getting into rock music. But as time passed, I can rarely get through any of their material. The final nail in the coffin was that god awful stuff that they forced onto my Ipod like three or four years ago.

I didn't even listen to it. I wonder if Apple or U2's guys came up with the terrible idea?
Though to be fair that's not much to do with their earlier work.

Yeah, I get it. Like I said, it was the final nail in their coffin for me personally. They just got boring... All of their records became boring to me. War was the last one that stayed in my list of albums to go back to but I only recently took it off to make room for other records. (Speaking of which, I have like 15 records to post on my listening log...)

It was my favorite U2 song in like 5th grade when I only had heard, I think it was Joshua Tree. But yeah I won't call it trash because it has some redeemable qualities that I can appreciate. It's certainly no mastuh-peece.

Regardless, my overarching point is that there's nothing especially pretentious about U2 from a musical standpoint. Bono's vocals may be on the overwrought side, but no more so than other post punk vocalists like Jaz Coleman, Ian Astbury, Ian McCulloch, Siouxsie Sioux, or Morrissey.

The thread title is WORST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME. As much as some of you dislike U2, not a single one of their albums are worthy of that category.
There's so much bad **** out there. Placing a band that tons of people enjoy in that category makes you look petty, bitter over their success, and a bit immature - IN MY OPINION. IN MY OPINION. Hate whatever you want to hate. It's a free world baby!

My perception of it being pretentious might come from singers trying to imitate him who I've also hated, I'm not sure. It's hard to not think that someone is pretentious when they're trying to come off as something great and they only succeed in annoying the hell out of you. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Bitterness does play into it a bit, but mostly because I'm not set out to find terrible music and U2 is regularly inflicted on unsuspecting civilians such as myself.
