Ridiculously Cool Lyrical Passages
NO MORE THAN FOUR LINES - THEM'S THE RULES.
Well, I stand up next to a mountain Chop it down with the edge of my hand Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island Might even raise just a little sand A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace, And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace, And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar, Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour Really don't mind if you sit this one out My word's but a whisper your deafness a shout I may make you feel but I can't make you think Your sperm's in the gutter your love's in the sink And all the shady preachers Begging for my cash Swiss bank accounts while giving their secretaries the slam

Edit: Oops, my reading comprehension is poor today; didn't see the four lines bit. I'll edit shortly.
There ain't no devil, only God when he's drunk It ain't no sin, to take off your skin and dance around in your bones How do the angels get to sleep when the devil leaves his porch light on? Lookin' for a good time starts with throwin' in the line. (Tom Waits - Come On Up To The House) Fall out of the window with confetti in my hair Deal out jacks or better on a blanket by the stairs I'll tell you all my secrets, but I lie about my past Send me off to bed for evermore (Tom Waits, Tango 'Til They're Sore) The poker's in the fire And the locusts take the sky And the earth died screaming While I lay dreaming of you (Tom Waits again) ..Still working on choosing my favorite four lines from the other ones. Yeah ... I love Waits too, but he said a max of four lines...
Also, "Kentucky Avenue" is one of many songs that makes me cry every time I listen to it. Have you paged through my entire complete Tom Waits discography review in my journal, perchance? Edit: Oh, and my "The Word According to Waits" sections, too... Sorry for temporarily hijacking your thread, Chula. We now return you to your regular programme...

I'm an idiot, sorry; I'm editing my post presently!
..And no, I haven't seen your review but I would love to! I'll do that shortly. There are so many emotionally annihilating Waits songs. "I'm Still Here" just destroys me. |
