Not really. You just blasted in with your "punk murders you prog pussies" and it went from there. Given that, then the Stooges comparison is a natural progression from there, which is why I said that it has as much place in and relevance to the subject being discussed as the Sex Pistols do. I'm not saying there is no room for discussion of punk, now that it's been broached, but if so then why not include the Stooges and why be surprised about that comment?

Yeah you're right actually. Blame the Bat then.
Still, I see what he's saying. You were making the point that the Pistols did all this blah blah and he was saying The Stooges did it first I think. Or maybe better. Either way, it's far from arbitrary. Once someone brings up a punk band (really shouldn't be eating them, but there you go) then surely all punk or punk-influenced bands are a valid subject for discussion within that? If he had said something like Johnny Cash > Sex Pistols, then maybe you'd have a case.
