Museum Mouth - Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig
I don't care about this album enough for a fleshed out review. Neat album cover. Starts off with some really boring acoustic indie rock. Next song is a more upbeat and a step in the right direction. They have a pop punk vibe except they don't use the conventionally irritating vocals common to the genre. That's a plus for me. Riff From My Head carries on in that style, making me wonder if the rest of the album is going to be this forgettable. The rest of the album plays and I am reaching critical levels of boredom. Roadkill pulls us out of the more energetic pop punk and back into the dull indie rock **** before jumping back into pop punk for the last two songs. Shoulda shown it to me when I was 12-14. Consistently bland record. I can tell that these guys did what they wanted to accomplish though, so instead of a lower rating I'll give it a 4/10 for genuineness. |

Lo-fi alternative stuff made to pull at your heartstrings. The Robert Christgau in me wants to say "Little America had a trendy 'lil baby with Sonic Youth", but in reality there's more diversity to it than that. 'Lacquer' has a strong mid-90's feel, like Hum without the Hendrixian guitar highs. Some groovy basslines here and there throughout the whole record, plus 'History's Mysteries' would be great for a summer compilation. Not bad, not bad at all... 5.5 out of 10 |
