1. What were your VERY FIRST impressions on listening to the album, say from the first five minutes in?
it's been at least five years since i listened to this album.....i was really hoping for something fresh or something different to pop out at me....but got nothing still enjoyed it....just nothing new 2. What did you think of the opening track? fun but typical 3. What did you think of the next track? really the same...i only ever checked these guys out because Alan Dubin and James Polkin are in this band.....better explained in the have you heard them before question 4. Did you like the vocalist? Hate him/her? Any impressions? Loved actually....the only reason i listened to this is because of the vocals 5. Did the music (only) generally appeal to you, or not? eh it's grindcore.....i mean i love my Phobia and Pig Destroyer and understand where talent is in the genre....but at the end of the day....eh 6. Did the album get better or worse as you listened to it (first time)? again totally dug this several years ago....and wondered if this would re-kindle some love for it....but alas i've moved on 7. What did you think of the lyrical content? hilarious and fun 8. Did you like the instrumental parts? see question 5 9. What did you think of the production? it's grindcore...... 10. Did you know of this artiste prior to listening to the album, and if so, did that foreknowledge colour your perception of this album? in 2001 i went and saw Fantomas at Slims in SF.....the opening number was a band call Atomsmasher....a one person lap top act very similar to Kid606 (who i saw on the first of that year when they opened for The Melvins/Fantomas Big Band)....Later that year in Baltimore i went to see an amazing Japanese black metal act called Sigh in a tiny bar and the opening band was called Khanate....Khanate blew me the fuck away....literally. when i found out later that James and that amazing vocalist were in another band called OLD i jumped all over it and at the time loved it this album has not aged well in my mind.....while i liked it and it brought back some good memories.....its good at best 11. Is this, generally, the kind of music you listen to or not? generally no.....but i do love stuff like this when the mood hits me 12. Assuming you listened to the album more than once, on repeated listens, did you find you liked the album more, or less? i listened to it three times this week and it stayed the same in my mind 13. What would you class as your favourite track, if you have one? Tracheotomy Peashooter 14. And the one you liked least? didn't really have a least favorite.....they all kind of blend 15. If the album in question is a debut, did that fact allow it, in your mind, any leeway, and if so, was that decision justified or vindicated? funny ....i never listened to any of their other albums....so i can't compare 16. Are you now looking forward to hearing more from this artiste, if you have not heard any of their other material? no....i really have no interest at this time 17. Were you surprised by your reaction - positive or negative - to the album? nope 18. Did the album end well? i'm not gonna lie....i had to listen to this on youtube and the best part was the ending when Spazz - Kill Crush Destroy started 19. Do you see any way the album could have been improved? no...this is a fine example of it is what it is and for what it is....it's good 20. Do you think the album hung together well, ie was a fully cohesive unit, or was it a bit hit-and-miss? sure....why not numbers 7.666/10 |

I wanted to speak to the vocals as well but forgot. I like the way they're not generic Cookie Monster vox. One reason I love Enslaved so much is the vocals are different in an almost Bon Scott kind of way. |

there's not a ton for me to say about this album that hasn't already been said. it's a mildly interesting concept that's poorly executed and in terms of the grindcore itself it's rather mediocre. i can see the appeal i guess but it just isn't something i would seek out, a little too gimmicky for my tastes.
4/10

*slides through the door before it closes*
I immediately felt turned off by it at the beginning but I was going to give up on it. Maybe it might have some gems in it. There were a few tracks near the end that I tolerated but for the most part abrasive music like this doesn't do it for me. It ended up becoming background noise that i just zone out to. I didn't even realize how many tracks passed for the most part because they melded together especially near the beginning. Meh rating 3/10

Just looking for Batty and Exo now and we're done. New album is up from today, in the OP. Qwertyy, you're on!

Zach Hill - FACE TAT (2010)
This album walked a fine line between catchy and obnoxious. I found myself mostly enjoying the sounds that were used, but then there were many times when there was just soo much going on at once or sounds that drowned each other out and it wasn't pleasant. There were also some moments that were straight up Frownland noise, I didn't like that either. If they toned it down a bit I could see myself really loving this. 5/10.. I might try to give it a second listen, maybe it will grow on me. |

Oh - kayy.
A little early; listening doesn't begin till tomorrow. The album just goes up so people know what's next. Still, I guess it's no harm. But mostly reviews should only be posted from tomorrow.
