Plenty of plebs like post-punk. They're just plebs who can read.

Okay so I'm kind of annoyed. I wrote a decent sized review of this and accidentally closed the browser because I got distracted with something else. Honestly it wasn't that great a review anyway, so I'll just post some thoughts.
I think if I listened to this album about three years ago I would have been blown away and absolutely loved it. I wasn't exposed to much grindcore or a weirder variety of metal, and this would have slotted in nicely with bands like Cardiacs, miRthkon and The Peculiar Pretzelmen in my oddball quasi-novelty taste area. However, I just didn't really get into it. It was fun and silly, and had some better parts - but I wasn't interested by the end. So, unfortunately, it's a 5/10.

When my turn comes around...let's go with Ocean Machine: Biomech by Devin Townsend, since there's probably a fair amount of people participating in this club that have yet to dive into this guy's brilliance.

O.L.D. - Old Lady Drivers
This album was great to listen to from a historical perspective, being just a year after Napalm Death's scum. However without ND's politically driven intensity behind the grind, this album felt a bit aimless to me. The humour is funny in parts but all in all I think this would have been great to watch live at the time, but not as great for repeat listens on an album. I did appreciate the abrupt feel changes. A mixed bag for me but I probably won't keep it in my library. 5/10 |
