I also like Nadia Oh! which people either hated or thought Goofle11 was trolling. Outside of Goofle11 as far as I remember I was the lone member who liked (loved) it and I didn't think it was a troll and took it as a serious pick because it wasn't a serious album. I don't know why MicShazam lost his McShizzle over any critism that came his way. I found him one of the most critical in the Album Club and for while I respect for his brutal honesty, well at least when his criticism was directed at someone else. I think now I lost respect because his honesty is gone and is replaced by being contankerous. Or perhaps he didn't change, maybe it was my perception of him changed because I never quite figured him out at first. And I can't figure why while he doesn't like a lot of things on one hand and then be bothered by Frown or Hawk -- cause he isn't too unlike either of them. Both rubbersoul and I mentioned that we liked Laura Nyro and I figured that should mean something like "cheers, we both like the same thing." well at least that's how I felt about rubber soul liking stuff I liked. Also me and Psy-Tech-Ant (one of them, they are like one giant almagated member to me) liked Alison Krauss and the slide dobro part, that should count for something. So at the end of the day there was both positive and negative things said about the album, so (unless I am missing something underhanded and devious going on in that thread) there was no reason to throw the rattle out of the pram and relinquish one's Album Club membership. @MicShazam, If you fall off your bike, you get back up and start riding again. Look what I had to go through to join the Album Club: last year my computer crashed, I couldn't listen to albums. I had to wait for a new computer before joining. I was black listed even before I ever got green listed. Even now I'm the low man on the totem pole, the last in line. If falling off a bike was an Olympic sport I would be the Michael Phelps of falling off of bikes. Don't treat the Album Club like it's the Tour de France where you always have to win. Don't try to be the Lance Armstrong of the Album Club.

The only things I said about people not liking my pick were that they made me realize I'm rarely ever agreeing with anyone about music on here. Which is true, btw. I dislike almost every single album club entry and most people dislike mine, so I'm never getting any new music out of the album club, plus I'm never showing anyone else anything they want to hear. Add to that the 7 day deadline, week after week and you have something that I didn't really enjoy anymore. Quote:
I just don't want to do the album club and it's 7 day mandatory participation format anymore. I'd say that's pretty reasonable. |

Things ebb and flow
Everyone is welcome to jump back in It never should have been about trying to find records people will like It’s just about exploring new music I didn’t like the Nyro or Shatner records but I’m glad I know about them. Learning **** and all. Join back up. Review old records you missed. Just enjoy. It’s supposed to be fun. Reviews can be long or short. Whatever you got to say.

I'm not having high hopes that people will agree, but I'd love a format change:
What if the club featured 1 song from every single member, every single week. Instead of a full album. Then, any members that listened to & reviewed ALL tracks from the current week gets to submit 1 track for the next week. That way, there would be a much wider variety of styles every week and it would be more fun and much easier to find something to say. For me anyway. I'd have more to say about 5-8 totally different songs than about 1 whole album of stuff I don't necessarily care much about. |

Yeah I don't know if I'm going to attempt creating a new thread myself.
Maybe it could get some of the people who don't want to commit to the album club to participate, since it's somewhat more flexible. Less participation one week would make it far less difficult to get back in the following week, since there would be fewer tracks to listen to. I guess I'll re-join the album club for now and see if I can stay motivated. I'm going to need to pick albums differently. I'll just go with whatever I feel like listening to and not worry about how torturous I expect it to be for other members. |
