Music that stands the test of time and still sucks

like Ragtime and Dixieland

There's even goofy crap preserved from the renaissance

Sucked then and sucks now

Frownland 12-27-2016 12:00 PM

I thought standing the test of time meant that it was good in its day as well as years down the line?

Dixieland and ragtime can be fun (Dixieland more so). I'd rather see someone play both than sit down and pop on a record of it though.

Trollheart 12-27-2016 12:02 PM

I don't think you can say Dixieland and Ragtime sucked then, unless you were alive back then, which I doubt. I believe they were extremely popular in their day. May still be... Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it sucks.

The Batlord 12-27-2016 12:02 PM

Led Zeppelin still sounds fresh today while sucking half the time.

That is exactly what it means, actually.

Incorrect: it means you think it sucks. A whole different kettle of mackerel, my friend.

Pretty much this.

OccultHawk 12-27-2016 01:53 PM

Gee

Sorry for the lack of clarity

Put it like this: if it appealed to simpleton dilweeds back then time doesn't make it any better

What kind of stick do you constantly have shoved up your ass?

Janszoon 12-27-2016 02:02 PM

Ragtime and Dixieland are pretty great to this day.

I don't know. When you finish grieving for Princess Leia you can over and check.

There isn't some kind of objective suck meter we can run songs through. If someone believes that the song subjectively sucks, it does to them and you can't really say that they're right or wrong on an objective level. You can say that it doesn't suck and it's on the same level of subjectivity. This is such a simple concept that I'm surprised that it comes up so often on the forums.

So, if a song sucks to you, then you saying that the song sucks doesn't need clarification as to who thinks it sucks.

It's because whiny, insecure bitches get prune-faced whenever anyone makes them feel self-conscious about the objective garbage they listen to.

Two extremely insensitive things in one thread said by the one person. Well done. Respect for the dead, no?

The title of the thread leads one to believe that the OP meant that it sucks generally, which I would take to mean, had no real merit. FFS, I can say rap or punk sucks; doesn't make it so. Of course you can be objective when you're basically asking people to vote or comment on music that has been around for decades. You can't simply dismiss a whole genre by saying it sucks. Isn't this what you all got on my back for about jazz? What about your music? If I say it sucks, does it suck? If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does Frownland make music out of it?

Frownland 12-27-2016 05:36 PM

"In your opinion" is redundant as ****. It's obviously an opinion. It's like pointing out that people are talking about shoes when they mention how they love Jordan's.

Trollheart 12-27-2016 05:45 PM

So if I say "jazz is ****" you're ok with that? Yeah. Right. I know exactly what you'd say. Stop with the double standards, man. If this was my thread you'd be pulling me up on a post like Hawk made, you know you would. Stop arguing with me just for the sake of arguing. Join me, and together we can rule this world!

If I say jazz is **** then it should be assumed that I have not invented a reality altering machine that causes the lines of objectivity and subjectivity to become blurred. It's a ****ing opinion, you dillweed.

That's total bollox. I know, one ****ing hundred percent, if I dismissed a whole genre - nevr mind two - with a glib one liner like that there would be people here down my throat. I don't give a **** about Dixieland but you can't just say it's crap, and was crap, dismissing everyone who liked it, and may still do. How much Dixie/Rag has Hawk listened to, I wonder? It's a complete pile to say "it's his opinion": that's not how he's phrasing the OP, so other opinions must be taken into account.

Not that I give a **** either way, but your double standards stick in my throat. Seriously.

Exo 12-27-2016 07:20 PM

Rap Metal is a whole genre and I think it's all crap.

Yeah. You think. You don't say, like Hawk did, it is and always was crap, as if nobody else's opinion matters. Ah, who the **** cares? Do what yaz like: I'm off to bed.

Idk DG do it a bit of justice. RATM is good as well, and there's some Faith No More that's kind of Rap Rock.

My mind doesn't consider the vocal aspects of these bands to be rap. Maybe that's a cop out but I just don't hear it as rap. I'm talking more of the ICP sort of stuff.

And if you trashed a genre I liked with an "IMO" in front I'd still **** down your throat. You see, some people aren't defensive babies. Some people just engage in musical discussion.

Fair enough, but imo there's even moments pf the "nu-metal" brand of rap rock that I think still hold some ground as not sucking. ICP is objective garbage though.

The Batlord 12-27-2016 07:37 PM

ICP is also not rap rock. They had a couple albums with a bit of guitar thrown in for a few songs, but they're not rap rock by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok. I'll take your word for it. I also have not retained any actual bands to give as another example of my hatred for rap rock which just goes to show how much I hate it. ICP was my default.

Just go with Limp Bizkit. They're the standard.

It's only your fault if you're too dumb to tell the difference between subjectivity and objectivity.
