For me, I think it has to do with the change, as in it is not the same beat or rhythm. Then again it depends on the how energetic the band is. For example, went to see Paul Simon live, Love the song Kodachrome. He did it as a third encore, man was it ever horrible. One reason I like the studio versions.

Studio for the most part for me, but there are exceptions. The explosive live version of The Fall's No Xmas for John Quays on Totale's Turn surpasses the studio version on Live At The Witch Trials, and the studio version isn't exactly chopped liver. And the song is still the best anti-heroin tune I've ever heard.

Took a listen to that song Drjohnrock, what genre is that considered?

Drjohnrock 12-12-2016 07:47 PM

Hmm, I'm really not that good with labels. The song originally came out in the late 70s but isn't really punk, although it certainly shares punk's aggressiveness. Maybe put in under the general "alternative" category. Maybe elphenor can chime in on this--he's into the categorization thing.

Cool.. Never figured it from the 70's

Metallica's S&M is pretty sick imo.

Agreed. I prefer the songs on there to the original versions.
