Not metal by today's standards but was certainly metal by that era's standards.

That's a Queen song yes. Is this you trying to say that Stone Cold Crazy is metal? You just think that because of Metallica.

I owned that Queen album long before Metallica decided to cover the song numb nuts.

Forget the vocals and focus on the music. This is metal all the way based on that era. Brian May kills it on this.

I just kind of assumed that was the reason since Stone Cold Crazy totally isn't metal. Should I chalk it up to blind nostalgia or what?

If Led Zeppelin are metal then "Stone Cold Crazy" is metal.

So it isn't metal. Case closed.

What does it take to be metal in the context of the early 70s? Come on Einsteins, spell it out for me. I guess I really don't know considering I was listening to all of that stuff in real time back then.

What makes Stone Cold Crazy metal?

considering how influential Stone Cold Crazy was on metal music later on, in don't think it's far fetched to call it metal.
