I don't know how popular this one is, but i've been told that The Kinks song Baby You Really Got Me is the original song to use distortion.
Yet here is Joe Hill Louis using overdrive a whole 14 years before The Kinks. And I think there was more people before him, I just haven't heard those recordings. |

First use of sitar on a Western pop/rock recording is often thought to be The Beatles' "Norwegian Wood", but The Kinks beat them to it four months earlier on "See My Friends".
