I use "are" for Nightwish and The Beatles.

Nothing, but language should look like it makes sense, and if it doesn't, especially when it's something even vaguely esoteric-looking, then why should we not take matters into our own hands so long as it looks like it does make sense?

I do the same with ellipses. I know there should be a space both before and after the ellipsis, but I still don't add one before the ellipsis since I think it looks ****ty otherwise. Wrong? Yes. Better looking? Yes, as far as I'm concerned. I'm becoming the same way with commas, as sometimes the grammatical rules regarding commas can make you add them to an extent that they become distracting.

Hey, one of my students says that Nightwish is his favourite band! How about skipping the fascinating grammar debate and reviewing another Nightwish album. I'd like to sound cool without going through the tedium of actually listening to their material.
