What if they really do listen to everything, and their experience is mostly outside the pop spectrum? How would they convince you they do listen to anything and everythnig hey can get their hands on?

I just tell people I'm a metal head. If I say alternative, they start talking about how great pink Floyd is. If I say everything, they start spouting off their favorite pop singers. If I say stoner rock (which is closer to the truth) they think I'm a pot head. Which is funny cause I now live a pretty straight edge lifestyle. Lol. If I say metal head, they either start talking about music intelligently, or they pigeonhole me as a satanic worshipper followed by them doing my favorite thing and not talking to me. :D

You live around people who know what stoner rock is? I didn't know there were such people.

Lots of people know QOTSA.

They don't. They think that means I only listen to music stoned.

Ah. Makes sense. I generally say "Metal", give a meaningful glance and their desire to continue the conversation generally dwindles.
