Not only is that statement highly unlikely, but it also makes it basically impossible to progress the conversation.

What the **** am I supposed to say next?

"Oh, well if you've heard everything, what are your thoughts on TMR?"
"Everything? Huh. What's your favourite Eric Dolphy album?"

Nah bitch, give me a few bands/genres/artists that you're particularly fond of and we'll go from there.
This is assuming the person actually wants to have a conversation about music. I've gone the route of listing bands or genre's I'm into at the moment only to be met with those glazed eyes I was talking about. If they really want to talk about music, I ask them what they listen to and I can work from there.

I don't listen to everything, there are tons of styles I mostly hate, but there's still a good chance I enjoy ar least a handful of songs of even those.

I try to find something in about every genre that I like. I can't stand the roughness of a lot of death metal becaudse it often gives me a headache, notably brutal death mketal. But I'm still looking. I know I really like the band Death.

Personally, I think this is what separates an audiophile from - say - a metalhead or hipster. Those labels apply to people who like a particular type of music and close themselves off to others (exceptions exist, but this is true for the most part). I pride myself in being an audiophile and if I find a style of music I've never heard before, I will most definitely give it a chance.
I think that's a good way to put it. I obviously haven't heard every genre of music out there, but I listen at least a little bit of every genre I have heard and I'm always open to hearing new genres.

I never thought it'd happen but I found a crunkcore album I more or less tolerate. Maybe someday that'll happen for bro-country too.

Kinda unrelated but I was meaning to post this somewhere.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

There are two kinds,of people advent music fans who listen to everything ...and spend hours a day digging

And casual music fans ...which is,self explained

I always figured kids and adults these days listen and are open to everything cus,we live in the internet age ....if not then that is,weird 2 me

Cus back when I was a,kid in the early 90s it was much harder to discover and dig for different styles of music

That's what's tough for me, because I don't have a favorite Eric Dolphy album, even though I have every Eric Dolphy album.

Plenty of times I will list favorites just to play along. But I don't really have favorites, and I never really thought about music that way prior to getting more involved with music fan message boards and the like on the Internet.

Yeah, it took a lot more sleuthing to discover stuff when I was a kid, although that was part of the fun, too.

I mean...Out to Lunch! is totally the best Dolphy album, even if the others are all 5 star albums.
