Listening habits
I'm curious to know about the music listening habits of members here. Especially cause mine are very sporadic and I'm sure we all have different ones.
Right now I'm not listening to any music and trying to do so would feel like a chore. I'm going through a period where all music sounds stale and I just can't find any interest in listening to music. I see some members here that seem to listen to music every day and are always talking about new artist and their latest release and idk how they keep that up without taking a break or getting bored with the experience. Though I periodically go through this phase where I get uninterested in music eventually I break out of it and go through a period where I get obsessed with a particular artist or genre, awhile ago I got obsessed with Kas product and only listened to new wave and later on I got obsessed the residents and only listened to experimental music but after I sucked each one dry now I moved on. I've come to notice that my music listening habits go through a cycle of being obsessed and then being completely disinterested but I have yet to figure out if this cycle comes from my current emotional state or if it's just I have a very selective taste.

My exploration of music has slowed to almost nothing in the past year. I've established albums that I would consider to be the best in their respective genres, and I'm okay with just listening to those. I'm highly judgemental and I've concluded that the odds are very small I'll hear something better than what I've heard already--only with genres I'm familiar with of course. It's very likely I'll hear some jazz that I love with minimal exploration, because I've never actively searched for jazz that I like.

You think Dolly will make this disinterested feeling go away? I highly doubt it.

When I listen to albums, I tend to put trying out new genres and gaining experience in them ahead of trying albums I've been waiting a long time to hear. Example, I'm trying to get more into folk as I haven't even heard 100 folk albums yet, but not many of them oare high on my to-do list, not like many rock albums such as the Fugazi discography, Atom Heart Mother, and Flood by Headswim.

Sometimes I spend several hours a day listening to music and sometimes I go several days without listening to any music. It depends on what I'm doing and whether I'm in a musical mood.
I used to get obsessively into specific genres and bands much more when I was younger and I'd spend days or weeks focusing on my latest discovery. These days my musical tastes are more varied and I don't listen to any single band or genre for more than a couple of hours at a time at most. |

I don't understand the 100 albums thing either, seeking that kinda validation doesn't look like it is for the sake of self interest, it feels like it's for the sake of social interest, like you need and arbitrary amount of experience to justify to ppl that you know about music.
That's kinda what im like too Psy fi.

I don't see how. This isn't another one of those "you think I'm saying I'm better than you" things, is it? Because I'm more than sure that you've heard many more albums than I have.

Along with your numbering system it makes you sound like you're more concerned with statistics than actually feeling the music.
