does playing GUITAR split your BRAIN in half?
Hi there
im trying to do an experiment to discover how to truely multitask (be able to think about more than one thing at once) ideally i want to be able to talk to someone, and think about it clearly, whilst being able to think about what i'm doing next, or about where i am/am going. Instead i seem to only be able to think about/do one thing at once. if i have a second person speak to me at the same time, it goes to what i suspect is my subconscious to handle it.. this often leads to me not properly hearing, or not properly listening to the second person. They say that Cesar could do many different things all at the same time. he would have three different people in his office he was dictating letters to at the same time, while he was reading a book simultaneously. My experiment is to see whether the playing of guitar splits your mind, so it can think about two seperate things at once, seperately, or if it just splits your manual dexterity in your hands, so they can do two seperate things. as musicians do you know whether you can do this? can you truely multitask two or more things at once? let me know |

Playing guitar isn't about "splitting" your brain. I don't like that phrasing. Playing guitar is about instinct. When you first learn you struggle to switch between notes and chords but it slowly becomes instinctual to do so.

Playing guitar won't "split your brain." Guitar playing depends on "muscle memory" which improves over time with repetition. That's why they say "practice makes perfect." Taking up the guitar isn't going to help felicitate multi-tasking. Sorry dude, but if you want to really want to split you brain try having a conversation with some of the bozos on this site.
