Default Goofle's recommendation corner

Okay, so this is basically a reversal of Trollhearts thread, in the hope that other members of the forum are encouraged to review albums and give their opinions on music. How it works:
  1. You give me a description of the type of album that you want me to recommend.
  2. Based on your description, I suggest an album or two that fits said description.
  3. You listen.
  4. You review.

I will use this post to keep track of the recommendations and post links to the reviews.

I want some music with metal and free jazz influences like Zu, Ultralyd, or Combat Astronomy.

I want things that don't sound like Wolves in Sheepskin.

I'd like some more dark gothic Country like that Strawfoot you put me onto and was so good.

Also, I would suggest letting each member go one at a time, for instance say Frownland wants jazz metal, you recommend, then he listens and comes back with his thoughts. Then grindy wants dark electronic, you rec, he listens and comes back but ONLY after Frown has finished. Otherwise as you say it'll be a cluster thing.

I find that a signup sheet is usually a great help in keeping control of things like this.

This was problematic for me because (and I assume the same goes for yourself) finding bands that fuse metal with free jazz is quite hard. But I think I have found an album that might at least tickle your fancy and covers the ground reasonably well, though it's lacking clear Metal influences:

Bondage Fruit - Bondage Fruit (1994)

And for you:

Slim Cessna's Auto Club - Always Say Please and Thank You (2000)

I've listened to some Bondage Fruit, but I'm not very familiar with that album. I'll give it a listen and review it unless you can think of a group that's new to me, either way is cool.

Can't you just recommend something that you found incredibly unique, that's relatively new?

Like I really really really don't want to sit here and list 100 of my favorite albums.

I think you know enough about my music tastes to be able to give me something I probably haven't heard. You know I'm a huge fan of The Knife, Bjork, Holly Herndon, iamamiwhoami, etc.

Since you have a few artists in there with quirky off-beat Pop tendencies, as well as some electronics, and asked for a recent album - I shall choose this:

Clarence Clarity - No Now (2015)

^If Goofle wanted to keep posts in control, he could've made this a journal or put it in the editors pick. You can't just tell people not to post when they have thoughts about a rec that they want to talk about.

Well, if you read the OP I voiced my concerns about it becoming a cluster, so a sign up sheet and an order would make sense. Let's see how much interest there is in the format before going any further though.
