Economic benefit? Eh. Depends on how intelligent the business men behind the scenes are. When Tool got their album leaked, the managers had flooded different sites with the fake album diverting many people from hearing it. Other people have come to the ideology that they have to embrace the leak and tell people to get it and check them out live.

Those who purport to have been injured by the leak are often connected to those who did the leaking. It's the no publicity is bad publicity theory.
