I'm also a drummer (as well as a bassist and keyboardist) , and a prog lover. I think that Peart tends to be very overrated, especially on a "technical" level, but on the other hand, Rush is probably in my top 30 overall, not just with respect to prog artists. I do think that Peart is very solid, and that what he plays fits Rush's music really well. "Playing for the song" is the most important thing in my opinion, and Peart definitely does that. (Even though I wish he, and Rush in general, wouldn't be so rote live; I've never been a fan of that with any artist.) I also think that Peart tends to be very underrated as a lyricist, especially from Signals on.

Did Peart ever write any lyrics after he burned his copy of Atlas Shrugged?
