If anybody thinks he really is just a garbage shock rock artist getting by on a gimmick, I'd really suggest giving The Pale Emperor a listen. Don't get me wrong, it's not anything brand new or super impressive, but it's definitely a big change from his older work, and his experimentation with the bluesier side of rock music definitely added some serious longevity to his career imo.
He has good songs, many of his lyrics are pretty thoughtful, and after watching some interviews, he definitely has a working brain between his ears. Sadly, he's been overshadowed by controversy, and is not taken that seriously because of it.

Now he's matured in those aspects. I hope that facet of him stands out more now that he's given up the excessive gimmics.
