Default Power chords in music

I recently asked on another website "whether music from the 1990s and 2000s was any catchier than the 2010s" and someone claimed that power chords were used more then than now. Would you agree on this, and do you prefer songs with more straightforward chord sequences (like from then) or with more unusual structures (like with a lot of current music)?

I think power chords are just as prevalent as ever. Just not in the mainstream like they were in the day.

It's from a creepypasta called the russian sleep experiment. It's one of my favorite creepy pastas and it's just a amazingly creepy photo.

Yep, I think this is the right answer. And some day power chords will be popular again.
