At this point, download for me now.
Even when I buy CDs, I just rip them to MP3s right when I get them and that's what I listen to. Then I give away the CD right after I do that. I don't need to own "physical" copies of anything any longer.
I've been through tons of formats--I was born in the early 60s. I've owned all sorts of vinyl including 45s, LPs, 10" releases etc., I've owned 78s (that I inherited from my grandfather), I've owned stereo reel-to-reel releases (just a handful though . . . they were never that popular; in the early 70s I used to make my own "mix tapes" on stereo reel-to-reel though), 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs including mini-CDs singles--all sorts of things. The only thing I ever really lamented about format changes was that it made it a pain in the ass to organize your collection, and you needed to listen with so many different sorts of players, adapters, etc. I'm more than happy with computer files.
