The beginning of gangsta rap, more complex instrumentals that are more important to the music, increasingly complex lyricism and vocals, I suppose some kind of influence by rock music in general in the more aggressive nature of much of the music, and that's just off the top of my head. I don't have twelve paragraphs about "the feels" that the music gives me though.
