Sun City Girls: 2
Syd Barrett: 1
Tim Buckley: 2
Vashti Bunyan: 1

So basically this genre battle is so vague that it has become pointless.

Those weren't elligible. But I included the one with Syd Barrett based on the lack of votes, the rest of the were elligible, and Syd has history with prog, psychedelic, and folk. But I won't make that exception often.

JGuy Grungeman 07-27-2016 04:19 PM

Ah, no. The more "obscure" or "non folk" bands like Animal Collective are there because they have an album or albums that are voted to be either freak folk or avan-folk on RYM.

All of these band heavily experiment with psychedelic folk, which is what avant-folk is.

@ Grungeman: Thanks! You've done very well to pull all this together after the long debate about what Freak Folk is. I'm happy to see that all my nominations were included, even if by dankrsta's definition Syd Barrett isn't Freak Folk.

Talking of which, dankrsta's candidates (post # 637) aren't mentioned, and neither are norg's (post #632). What kind of democracy are you running here, Grungeman? ;)

@ Batlord: It's just a race with a lot of horses, I guess. That happens sometimes.

There are seventeen bands being voted for, none of which have more than two votes. How is this useful?

JGuy Grungeman 07-27-2016 04:27 PM

At least we have a top 3 for determining the genre. I told you it wasn't a popular one to tackle...

^ Well, there were a lot more candidates than there were voters, so we got a rather disappointing spread.
In the end it's a game played for its own amusement value; it doesn't have to be useful, although in this case it has given me - and elphenor- some ideas about other FF artists to investigate...

PS Did you vote, Batlord? You should get in there quick and crank up the numbers!

No you don't. You have three bands that just happen to have two votes instead of one. That is useless.

I don't really care about this. I'm just being a dick to Grungey.

Exactly why I don't think he can possibly have an opinion.

It's pretty obvious that a list with that many bands and that thin a spread of votes isn't any basis for deciding anything. Whether or not I'm just in this for the lulz doesn't change common sense.
