Ah, I saw your post about free folk. For me New Weird America, freak folk, free folk and neopsychedelia are all part of the same creative movement from the middle/end of the 90s onward. I use freak folk and free folk often together (and interchangeably). While neopsychedelia is more spacey and cosmic, freak/free folk has that 'ancient' tribal quality. So if you want to emphasize a more experimental, improvisational side then Vibracathedral absolutely counts, if you want a more 'pop' side, than Animal Collective, Devendra Banhart etc will do. Also New Weird America sort of lost its meaning since there are so many artists in this genre from all over the world, especially Scandinavians.

I got three out of four so far, I'm looking for one more Black Metal band and I'm set. What are some heavy metal bands that are in the blackness sub-genre?

So I guess we have to wait awhile before a big four of Freak Beat bands? (of course if it was put to a vote) But I don't think it should really matter cause Freak Beat music ain't really the same as Freak Folk, that's if you go by what a sub-genre sounds like, not by the sub-genre titles.

I meant in terms of engulfing folk punk. Not strictly that genre but a lot of the bands cross over.

Although, if we do black metal, we won't be doing another metal genre for about a month and a half at minimum. There's still plenty in the realms of rock, pop, jazz, ambient, electronic, r&b, world music, etc. that we haven't touched upon.

I created the thread, and the game, and I ran the one on RYM.
How so? We have many different "major" genres to tackle. I think two metal genres in 4 weeks and doing another one really soon after that would just turn this into another "metal album survivor." We have rock, pop, alternative, indie, folk, soul, funk, ambient, electronic, hip hop, jazz, classical, regional, country, and many more. I think tackling too much metal too quickly will get tiring and will get metal done far too quickly.
