That'd be fine.

Art Punk applies to Television.

You just completely missed the point. Clash were taking odd, new turns by including various "outsider" genres that have little to do with punk, such as rockabilly or ska. Reggae was an oddity. London Calling was very diverse and did not always fit the stereotypical punk bill. Even in '79, punk was still being formed and so were the subgenres. Experimenting with the punk sound by including various genres, even Jamaican ones, sounds like art punk to me.

You somehow took this to mean ska and 2 tone are art punk? First of all, ska's been around since the 50's. Plus, 2 tone is a subgenre of ska that takes a little bit of influence from things like punk, not enough to call it a subgenre of punk. Claiming someone said Specials are art punk isn't a fair argument, let alone well constructed.

But that only proves my point. London Calling came out the same era as many iconic punk bands that experimented with the sound, including Television, Talking Heads, and Wire. Sure, the Specialsd came out, but 2 Tone is partially known for it's light punk influence, and is not exactly a punk band in any way. 2 Tone was a separate scene. Clash's London Colling was far more experimental and artistic than their first two albums.

If we're arguing about London Calling, it's in no way "Art Punk". Post-Punk maybe, but it's certainly not artsy or experimental. Just because something is a new sound doesn't mean it's particularly experimental.

Not directed at this thread really, just something I've been wondering. Why do we have big fours instead of five or whatehaveyou? I'd only really heard it applied to thrash before, so I'm guessing maybe it came from that?
