Never thought of the Smashing Pumpkins as Shoegaze, more like College/Alternative Rock with a bit of ~Grunge/Desert/Stoner Rock riffs thrown in. Wikipedia goes crazy with the genres that SP covers.

The riffs. Listen to Siva, and think of Debbie Google's bass, Chad Sexton's drums and Stoner Rock guitar riffs. (if I wasn't on my tablet I would post the YT vid)

I know that song. To me it's a stretch but I guess it depends on how you define the genre. I think it gives SP too much credit for being successfully eclectic. I even think shoegaze is being generous to their abilities. I see them as a straight forward rock band. |

A genre of music named after guitarists that stand zombie like on stage and stare down at their Boss pedals?
Seriously? *cough*

Writing off a genre because of its name is as retarded as, well, you. Especially when you like music that has a heavy shoegaze element....

Because if you read it, you'd realize that you are praising a band that has some strong elements in the genre that you claim doesn't exist. Talk about being a hypocrite. |
